Stewardess on a Sailing Superyacht: Jobs, Courses and Salary
Interior crew on a sailing yacht deliver five-star service in a space that moves, and often lend a hand on deck.
On sailing yachts the interior team is small, so a steward or stewardess usually covers service, housekeeping and laundry, and sometimes helps on deck during manoeuvres. Here is what the role involves and what it pays.
What a stewardess does
- Guest service: breakfast to dinner, drinks, table settings and anticipating what guests need.
- Cabins, laundry and the care of fine materials, plus inventory and provisioning with the chef.
- Securing the interior before sailing: everything stowed, nothing that can fall or break.
- On smaller crews, deck/stew work and line handling during manoeuvres.
Courses and experience
- STCW Basic Safety Training and an ENG1 or equivalent medical.
- Food safety and hygiene (Level 2), and interior training such as silver service, wine and housekeeping courses.
- Hospitality experience in good hotels or restaurants, and some sailing, are a real advantage.
