Preguntas

Can I get a job on a sailing superyacht with no yachting experience?

Yes, as a deckhand or stew, if you have STCW and ENG1 and can show real sailing experience, such as racing, deliveries or sailing school work. Sailing skills count a lot on sailing yachts.

Do I need a Yachtmaster to work on deck?

Not for an entry-level deckhand role, but it is a real advantage on sailing yachts, and you will need higher qualifications to move up to mate or captain.

Do crew agencies charge a fee?

No. Under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006), recruitment agencies cannot charge seafarers any fee. Sailing Match never charges crew.

When is the best time to look for work in the Mediterranean?

From March to May, when yachts prepare for the summer season. There is also a smaller wave of hiring in autumn, before the Caribbean season.
