A Southern Wind sailing yacht is looking for a Mate/Engineer to join her for the 2026 Mediterranean season. Based in Vilanova, she has a confirmed summer programme cruising the Balearics, combining private charter and owner use.
The captain is experienced and hands-on with engineering, and will oversee technical works directly, so this is a collaborative role rather than a solo technical responsibility. Systems onboard are straightforward. What matters most is the right attitude: a competent sailor who is self-sufficient, engaged and comfortable with the full range of life on a working sailing yacht.
For the right candidate there is a genuine opportunity to continue into a new-build project in Cape Town at the end of the season: a rare chance to be part of something from the beginning.
The programme
- Join in Vilanova, then cruising the Balearics
- July: charter season
- August: owner trip, Balearics
- Beyond: potential new-build programme in Cape Town
What we're looking for
- AEC Level 1 & 2 (essential)
- STCW and ENG1, valid and in date
- A competent, confident sailor. All systems are hydraulic, and you must be comfortable going aloft and working the boom to drop the main
- At ease with watersports and toy handling
- Flexible and proactive. The yacht is for sale, and the season needs someone who adapts without being managed
- Open to male and female candidates
Package
€4,000–€4,500 per month depending on experience, plus standard benefits.
